Varelafilm and Digestible Media are proud to announce their latest film, currently in development, American Sons.

This feature length documentary focuses on the life and death of San Antonio-born Cpl. JV Villareal, Jr. and the men from 1/11 India Battery USMC who served and died with him in the Helmand province of Afghanistan. Through verité, interviews, reenactments and recovered footage JV shot himself, this film explores what these men endured during those years and how they are living a decade after the heroic act that claimed his life, as well as the three other losses and injuries, in their unit.

For these men, life continues to be a war as they fight to adapt to civilian life in the country they fought so hard for. Though much has happened, they are still fighting these battles same way — together.

As the saying goes: Once a Marine, always a Marine.

The Marines were on patrol when they heard the explosion, shortly after villagers brought the victim to them for help. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)

Producer Laura Varela and Producer/Director Andrew Gonzales have asked Cpl JV Villareal’s sister April Rodriguez to come on as a Producer to help create the project:
