raúlrsalinas and the Poetry of Liberation traces the arc of Xicanindio elder poet/activist raúlsalinas’ work as a writer, as well as the social forces and political movements that have influenced his life’s work as a champion for human rights. His life’s journey has taken him from urban streets to migrant trails, through the juvenile justice system, state and federal prison, to his involvement in shutting down Marion Penitentiary, one of this nation’s first super max prisons, during what is now known as the prison rebellion years, to finally his post-prison odyssey as an advocate for peace and justice. Funded by Humanities Texas and the ITVS Diversity Development Fund.
